NEVER ON SUNDAY was created as the sequel to SISTERS IN SCRIPTURE and uses the same model--background, prayer, reflection and study, and once again participants are invited to enter into the lives of the women studied even as they discover meaning for their own lives. The outcome this time, however, was a bit surprising.
Like a true younger sibling, NEVER ON SUNDAY seemed determined from the start to assert her own identity. Perhaps because of that or perhaps because she focused on women who have been excluded, a certain "attitude" quickly developed. Where one woman's voice might have remained unheard, the combined , collective stores of these women created the compelling question "How could these women have been left out?" This study pulls these women out of obscurity and their stories become our stories speaking with surprising clarity and relevancy to today. Maybe that explains her personality, but NEVER ON SUNDAY is decidedly a bit sassy and, definitely, a lot of fun.

About the Author
Kathleen MacInnis Kichline has a Masters of Divinity from Seattle University where she currently teaches a course on Preparing and Leading Spiritual Retreats for the School of Theology and Ministry. She has served in parishes in the Seattle area throughout her career. Married with two children and four grandchildren, she herself is one of seven sisters. She draws from all these experiences in creating this study and also in her work as a speaker and retreat presenter.

“Never on Sunday” Brings Some of Scripture’s Women into the Light of Everyday!

I thoroughly appreciated digging into this study that Kathleen Kichline diligently researched and wrote to bring light to the lives of women who could be overlooked - or simply names read as one reads through Scripture. Surely, as she has indicated, their names are not heard or read for those who are scanning or listening to the Sunday readings that are in the Catholic faith tradition.
Each woman represented is a strong woman of faith, some going against the culture of their time to bring about a needed impetus to further the story that comes to comprise the timeline in all of the Scriptures. In these ways, we who read of them come to find new strengths within ourselves - or are challenged to use strengths we have in new ways.
Her format of study, a close look at each woman’s life and the context of the Scripture book in cultural context, adds richness and depth to our knowledge. Sharing the application questions bring women studying together into deeper connection with the women studied and with each other.
Kathleen’s prayers that commemorate each woman reflect deeply the impact they had on her as she researched into their significant place in God’s story that unfolds in the Word. Her prayers are breathtaking and once we have done our studying, they sink into us with a deep recognition of what we have discovered.
This study is a wonderful package to unwrap.

If you want to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible, specifically some of the key women in both the Old and New Testament of the Bible then you should include this book in your reading/study list. The author does a wonderful job of giving historical context to each of the selected texts. She also has formatted the book to include associated prayers and questions for spiritual enrichment and intellectual challenge. This book is a must for both individuals and study groups.

This book is a treasure. I would recommend it for a bible study group or your own personal spiritual enrichment. Kichline made these women from scripture come alive. She delved into the lives of women from the old and new testament and introduced me to biblical greats I had not known before. The prayers given for each woman in the bible are practical for today's living as we all make our way through this world and its challenges.
