Black Wicca

This has really accurate history on the origins of Wicca, and knows that not all witches are wiccan. But she does churn out some of the same old tired three fold "karma" stuff that doesn't make much sense, using the Hindu meaning of Karma, but it does work with the theosophist interpretation. Also she does the usual "smudging" with sage deal which many Natives take issue with. The author herself is half Native American and half Haitian/Black, but perhaps she is not closely associated with a tribe, or is associated with a tribe that does not take issue with the use of the term smudging, since it is an English word.
The author is an initiated Wiccan, however, she took issue with some of her tradition's stances on diversity and has branched out a bit on her own to be more inclusive of people of color and various cultures including Voduan and Hinduism. I find her story very interesting and unsurprising, unfortunately. As Black people have less of a warm reception into Wicca than is just. She calls herself an outlaw witch because her bringing her diversity eclectically into Wicca puts her outside the mainstream. I think this is because of the huge and warranted backlash against white people bringing culturally appropriatively practices into eclecticism. However, when a person of those cultures and races brings in their own traditions into eclecticism with Wicca, perhaps that backlash is not justly applied to them.
She outlines useful rituals for developing the power of intent and concentration, casting a basic circle, working with elements, and meeting a goddess, and Sabbats.
I only give this four stars instead of five because of the tired old three fold law = karma thing which I think the author should know better than perpetuate. Otherwise I find it refreshing and excellent. We need a more welcoming and accepting atmosphere for Black Wiccans and more initiated Wiccans willing to write about diversifying the coven experience.

Maiden, mother, and crone

Lady Kali Tara's Teachings of an Outlaw Witch is great for both maiden , mothers, and crones a like. Her book is a great starter for those beginning or just curious about the craft. It's easy to follow and I love that she leaves room for you to write your own notes. For me when teaching someone it has always been harder to have them read and then put notes in their book of shadows. She gives you room to work out your spells and rituals before adding them to your own book.
Outlaw is also great brush up for those who need a little refresher after times of not practicing. Having been in the craft for almost 2 decades even I was able to take a lot of information away from Teachings of an Outlaw Witch. I always love reading others rituals and spells and incorporating them into my own works. I recommend this book to all witches new and old.

This book is clear and easy to understand. I have gotten away from wicca because of health issues and this book makes it easier to get back where I need to be with myself.
