ESL students will benefit greatly from an understanding of these words. Another chapter defines various ethnic, racial, and homosexual slurs, as well as words associated with the bathroom. The glossary contains most of the terms discussed in the book. The final chapter contains exercises that test the comprehension of the dirty words and phrases explained in the text; the answers to these exercises can be found in an appendix. About the Author
Jack Lieberman has a master's degree from Harvard and a certificate in teaching English as a Second Language from the University of California at Berkeley extension. After being fired from his ESL teaching position at Tamalpais Adult School for explaining a few dirty words, he decided to write this book. He now teaches ESL privately and lives in Marin County, California. Jack also volunteers as a math instructor at San Quentin prison. His not-so-secret desire is to someday do standup comedy.

Seriously - this book is so helpful to new Americans. Like it or not, profanity and risque slang are an important part of speaking a language like a native - I highly recommend it!

A Great @#!%$&* Book!

This witty and entertaining review of English-language swear-words is essential for foreign students of the language, most of whom have little chance of understanding the rich variety of profanity widely used in American English but rarely explained. Now author Jack Lieberman and illustrator Justin DeFreitas have teamed up to remedy this problem, delivering a tasteful and extremely practical review of "dirty words" that will help students take a giant step forward in their understanding of American culture.
Filled with examples, puzzles, quizzes, jokes, and an index and glossary of terms, the book lays out a clear and easy-to-digest overview of American swearing. Do you know what a "dips***" is? How about a "scumbag?" Can you tell if "pussy" has the same meaning as "bossy?" If you can't answer questions like these, then you are a novice at American profanity and will get lost trying to understand everyday conversations in the U.S.A.
Practical and easy to use, "Dirty Words" fills a huge gap in ESL instruction.
