About the Author
Howard VanEs, M.A., has been committed to wellness and fitness for over 26 years. He has a deep passion for wellness and a desire to help people learn about the many ways they can improve the quality of their health and lives through mind/body methods. His experience includes weight training, martial arts, yoga, stress management training, and work from his previous role as a psychotherapist.

For over 21 years, Howard has been a dedicated practitioner of hatha yoga and has been teaching yoga for the last 16 years in the Bay Area of California.

Howard is the primary author and editor of the Letsdoyoga.com wellness book series: Beginning Yoga: A Practice Manual, Abs!, Release Your Shoulders, Relax Your Neck, Ageless Beauty & Timeless Strength, Meditation: The Gift Inside, and co-author of Office Ergonomics, Preventing Repetitive Motion Injuries and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He is also the co-producer of the audio CD, Shavasna/Deep Relaxation, and creator of the Yoga on Demand audio program which features over 14 yoga audios. In addition to writing about and teaching yoga, Howard also leads yoga teacher trainings, wellness seminars and retreats worldwide.

Finally, effective AND safe core strengthening exercises

What makes this book so valuable and useful are the clear, detailed instructions accompanied by really informative photographs. The easiest way to support your back is through strong abs, but one easy way to hurt your back is to do the exercises incorrectly - I know! This book tells you exactly how your body should be positioned so that the exercise will be both effective and safe.
I also like the grading of the exercises by `challenge level'. Returning from travel where the floor has not been an inviting place to exercise I can work back up in easy stages.

Perfect Guide For Good Health and Core Muscles

OK, I am not one who usually likes to workout with the help of a book preferring DVDs over photos but this book has some great exercises.

I have spent the past 2 weeks doing many of the "Level Easy" belly exercises and while miracles are not what I am looking for, I feel so much better. Usually I wake very stiff and it takes a while for the body to move fluidly. Since starting this, my mornings are much easier.

I spent about 25 minutes doing Standing Fire Wash, Woodchopper, Standing Bicycle and Cat Balance along with some core yoga stretches and really believe this could change my life.

Many years ago I was much more active. Over the past 10 years life has become more sitting than moving and I while I bounce into active mode throughout the year, it is NEVER consistent. These exercises are not only great for my belly but for my back as well. Strengthen the core and everything will be well. I totally believe it.

√ Surprised! The More I Read, the Higher my Rating!

As I read this little gem, I kept upgrading my rating. It started off as 2-3 stars, then ended up at 5. I bet you will say the same thing. The first chapter discusses, in detail the numerous benefits of strengthening abs. For example:

♥ Helps back issues
♥ Improves athletic performance
♥ Helps posture
♥ Helps breathing
♥ Helps stomach function

Well, you get the idea; this first section discusses at least ten benefits. I'm sold!

Succeeding chapters discuss anatomy of the abdominal muscles, and how people get "Six Packs." The author should be commended for telling the truth about six packs--you won't get them just from exercising. He points out that a very low level of body fat is required--far below what mere mortals have.

But the best part is the EXTENSIVE list and discussion of those 50 exercises. The list is really impressive, and they have accompanying photos that really show the exercise nicely. I was impressed. At the rear of the book is a great linked-list of all the exercises discussed, grouped by category--easy, intermediate, and challenging.
