Synopsis: On the Western Front in 1918, during what was to have been the “war to end all wars,” three people meet at an Allied camp near Amiens. One English, one American, and one Irish, they forge a friendship which transcends nationality, surviving the harrowing nature of a war which would devastate an entire generation. What happens during those weeks and in its aftermath will shape not only the world, but also the lives of those who experienced it, demonstrating the truth inherent in all war, and that as soldiers of every age have experienced, war is not only fought without but within, and the macrocosm of a world in conflict also reflects an intrinsic war where each man and woman must find his and her own sense of peace. Release: Veterans Day/Armistice Day (November 11, 2012). Note: A portion of proceeds from The Illumination: A Novel of the Great War (2012) will go to war-related publishing, television, multi-media and film projects by the IIPFoundation/MIPJ: http://www.mipj.org.

About the Author
K.J. Wetherholt, Principal of the IIPFoundation and Executive Editor of the MIPJ, continues to research the reality and effects of modern war, having returned to International Relations and Humanitarian Affairs following the death of her father, a veteran who first told her stories about his own paternal grandfather, an officer who served on the Western Front during WWI. This book was written in memory of those who experienced WWI, among other wars, past and present.

Gripping, Emotional, Memorable.
By Jon Helminiak
This is a book that stays with you long after the last word is read. Wetherholt brilliantly weaves together multiple themes that powerfully touch the heart and soul. The horrific realities of the WWI front; the unlikely bond between two front-line journalists, one Irish the other English; and their respect and love for an American nurse serving amidst the backdrop of the war itself. As the reader becomes enraptured in the factually based story-line, one is also learning, as the book is chocked with historical facts and truths about the "war to end all wars." My view of WWI will never be the same, and not a day passes when I don't think about one of the journalists final "battles" - his quest for absolution after the war's conclusion. I highly recommend this work for its historical integrity, powerful human themes, and as a needed reminder of the "forgotton war."

Please Wait for New Edition
By Repanse de Schoye
I am the author of the book, and I have asked that the last copies of this book be pulled, as there is a new, updated version of the work which will be published in due course. This is a new version reviewed by WWI experts, including historians on WWI from Sandhurst and formerly from the British Army. I would much rather the new version be read, and this former version be bought or utilized only for comparative purposes.

Have you forgotten yet?
By L Barrett
In a brief moment during the First World War, 3 lives intersect and are forever changed.
"The Illumination" by KJ Wetherholt tells the story of two journalists, stationed near the front lines to write the story of the war and trying to find the line between what will evade the censorship and still remain true in depicting the brutality of what is being faced. It is far better to tell of the glory and the romance of battle, than how the bodies are rent, and flesh is burned. The censorship proves effective, and when one man returns home to his aristocratic English life, the distance between him and his wife and the lack of her understanding of what he has witnessed, is palpable.
The intense reality of the front line brings two people together in a deep love that is usually reserved for those extreme occasions. The tragedy of survival leads one to a hermitlike existence in a monastery, where we are reminded that war makes atheists or believers of a person, and sometimes, that line is blurred as the human spirit fights to make it through the fog of pain.
It is the spaces between the words where the truth, the emotions, and the pain, can be found. And it is an uncommon gift to read a novel, and feel not only what is described, but all that which fills those spaces.
"The Illumination" is one such book. Writing with obvious passion for the subject, Wetherholt paints the reality of war in unflinching prose, describing the pain and horror of that particular event, where more than 9 million combatants and about 7 million civilians died, and where medical care was comparatively primitive under such extreme circumstances, including having to deal with the effects of poison gas.
