This is a one of a kind book! Looking back through ancient history, Ms. Davis took me on an intriguing journey to better understand the relevance of human intellect, thought, and philosophy. From advanced thinkers like Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates to great writers like Shakespeare and even film director George Lucas, Wisdom of the Toga explores the origins of our contemporary culture and language. She creatively and buoyantly delivers a thesis and stories that explain the source of our human life condition. For instance, she unveils the origins of the Olympics and further explains our connection with the past to some of today's most popular movies and books. Ms. Davis skillfully brings to focus how we evolved our collective consciousness in the modern era.
If you enjoy literature, history, theater, athletics, music, art, and science... you will be rewarded! Like a web, this author networks and links all learning disciplines. She has masterfully created a unique approach to educational entertainment. In following the various themes laid out in Wisdom of the Toga, here are some thoughts that stand out to me:
From the Roman times with the formal role of the "toga" in that culture, and venturing backwards and forward in time, referencing myths, stories, poetry and the arts, this book gives me a sense of "connectedness" to my past, present and future. The book itself is very poetic, and informative.
Monica Davis weaves her story using the proverbial threads of our human journey, showing connections between ancient cultures and their stories to our own time with our symbols and traditions. Her theme that story tellers have woven truth into the memorable tales, of struggling heros and their journey, is inspiring to me, that we all have a chance to participate in this great human adventure.
With stories, astronomy, science, music and other traditions, Monica builds her case that we are all connected. This is a great story about the Great Story, we the people gracing this Cosmos!
