His ability to survive D-Day only meant that he had to endure six more months of brutality that stretched the limits of human endurance. Joe witnessed death and destruction beyond belief. He became an efficient kiling machine and accepted the fact that he, too, would eventually be killed. He received the the Sliver and Bronze Stars for his bravery but his luck came to an end on a snowy Belgian battlefield. Critically wounded from the Nazi onslaught known as the Battle of the Bulge, he prayed his death would be quick. After experiencing sixty-one years of heart-wrenching survival guilt, eighty-five year old Joe returned to Europe and was overwhelmed by the gratitude of the Europeans. His story and how he overcame the odds against his survival is as amazing as the man himself.

About the Author
Don Busi spent more than 2 years researching World War II and has conducted several hundred hours of interviews with his father and other veterans. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in education. He and his family, including his father returned to Europe in 2005 to follow the steps his father took 60 years earlier during the European Theatre of Operations. Don has been a guest on dozens of national radio talk shows including "Dresser after Dark" and "Peter Anthony Holder Show" from Toronto, Canada. The author is available for historical presentations about the book and World War II.

Excellent WWII experience.

This book is an excellent view into the soldier's experience leading up to D Day, landing on the beach in the first waves and fighting their way through Europe. Thank You Don Busi for sharing your father's experience. A must read for any American.
