About the Author
Larry Matthews is an award-winning broadcast journalist whose thirty-plus years as a reporter provide the background material for his books. Matthews was a street reporter, anchor, news director, producer and editor for major radio stations, ABC Radio, and National Public Radio. He was a producer, host and reporter for Maryland Public Television. As a reporter he covered some of the major events of the late Twentieth Century in Washington, D.C. and other cities. He is the recipient of the George Foster Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, The DuPont/Columbia Citation, The National Headliner Award, and national and regional awards from The Society of Professional Journalists, The Associated Press, United Press International, and other professional organizations and universities. His memoir, I Used To Be In Radio, was hailed as “a must-read in journalism schools, especially for those who aspire to be investigative reporters” and as “a funny and moving page-turner”. Two of his novels, Healing Charles and Saving Charles, were praised as “outstanding works of fiction.” The novels are about the life of one man, set thirty years apart. Matthews is also co-author of Street Business, with Ernie Lijoi Sr., a police/crime novel based on real events in the career of retired Detective Lijoi. Matthews’s experience as an investigative reporter provides much of the background material for his Dave Haggard thriller series about a radio reporter in Washington, D.C. who finds himself at the dangerous center of major criminal investigations. The first in the series, Butterfly Knife, involves the hunt for a serial killer of priests. The second, Brass Knuckles, finds Dave chasing down leads in a murder/kickback scheme involving a member of Congress. The third, Detonator, is about the betrayal of national trust and high-level treason. Matthews lives and writes in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His website is www.larrymatthews.net. Hard to put down
By Douglas Ewan Cameron
The assassination of a federal judge in Washington, D.C. brings together three men from diverse backgrounds. Naturally, the first is Edward Segal, the killer. A Gulf War amputee turned assassin for hire, he is one of the nastiest villains this reviewer has encountered. What makes him particularly nasty is his penchant for killing with brass knuckles, the reason for the title of this second in a series of thrillers by Larry Matthews, the first being Butterfly Knife. The second person is John Prewitt, Jr. a congressman from Tennessee who was part of the case that the judge was to hear next. The third is Dave Haggard, reporter for Now News, whose investigation of the judge's killing brings him into contact with John Prewitt, Jr. Both of them become targets for Edward Segal. In a tale skillfully woven, the three men are headed toward a violent climax in a region where they all grew up: Oak Ridge, Tennessee. That fact intrigued the reviewer especially since he grew up in that town. Once you start this you won't want to put it down and will eagerly look forward to the third book Detonator.

Action Packed Thriller
By Tara Anne
Brass Knuckles packs a serious punch. The 2nd book in the Dave Haggard series grabs your attention within the first couple of pages. Matthews does an excellent job of story telling with an engaging and likeable cast of characters, while weaving twists and turns throughout every page. Dave Haggard is a true hero for the ages, who will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. You will not be able to put this book down. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series and really hope that I will be reading about Haggard the truth seeker for many years to come.

High Octane Thriller
By Brian Benson
Brass Knuckles is a pure thrill ride from beginning to end. I finished the book in an afternoon, I couldn't put it down. The story and it's characters could easily have been ripped from today's headlines. Matthew's, a former news hound knows what happens in the hard boiled underworld and back rooms of Washington politics. He weaves political greed, assassination, and the dark world of governmental cover-up, into an intricate plot that investigative journalist Dave Haggard seeks to uncover. It is not long before Haggard finds himself in the cross hairs of the assassins rifle. If the reading adrenaline rush is what you seek, I recommend you buckle up and grab some Brass...5 stars
