About the Author
Richard Crist has been a science-fiction illustrator for Analog and Asimov’s magazines. In 2001, he received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the City University of New York—his dissertation was titled Unity and Variety in Painting. Today, his philosophical focus is on values and collective intelligence. Seeing Blender 3D as a wonderful tool for artistic expression, he undertook to learn the program. In the process of learning Blender, he organized what he was learning into the sets of steps that make up this book.

Not Standard Technical Manual but GREAT

I thought this book was great but its approach is unconventional. It doesn't have lesson plans that systematically take you from no knowledge to having learned everything in the right order (there is no Karate Kid style "paint the fence" exercises followed by more complex lessons using what you learned earlier).
That said it is fantastic at walking you through how to do an isolated task. If you are totally clueless about 3D Modeling/Animation then this might not be the best single volume to purchase, but if you have experience with Blender OR even with another 3D modeling suite then this book is perfect because you know the isolated tasks you are supposed to be doing but just don't know how to do them and for that this book is perfect.
I should also mention that unlike most blender books this one is up-to-date on the latest-ish version of Blender. The only other book like that is Blender Meets Python: Blender 2.6 Unites with Python 3 for a Completely 3D Relationship (Volume 1) which is perfect for learning how to do Python scripting.

It takes a few minutes and your questions are answered. The kindle version has been discontinued because of paging error but the paper back version is fine. I would recommend this version
over the Kindle anyway because you can look at many pages in a flash as a reference. If you want help, here it is.
