Could not put it down
By working shoes
I started the book as bedtime reading, then was up till three am. One would not expect this topic to be so compelling and entertaining, but it is surprisingly fresh because the writing is so authentic, heartwarming, inspiring and funny!

A book for our time

We baby boomers are perhaps the first generation of children to be fortunate enough to have parents who live well into their old age. Many of our parents will be around in their 80's and 90's. How lucky for us and our children that our mothers and fathers are still with us.
But with this gift comes a dilemma; who will take care of one or both of our parents when they are no longer independent? This is the issue faced by Mary Beth Harris in her memoir, "Me? A Caregiver?" When her talented, intelligent, fiercely self-reliant mother Ellen, at the end stage of her life, could no longer receive the kind of care she deserved in an assisted living home, Mary Beth stepped up and brought her mother to live with her. Along with various caregivers for hire, Mary Beth nurtured her mama and brought beauty, joy, and comfort back into the life of the artist Ellen. While not so much a guide to caregiving, the book is a tale of love from a daughter to her mother. It's payback, if you like, to the woman for all the love and care she gave to her three daughters while never asking for anything in return.
It is also a cautionary tale of the world of elder-care. It's a must-read for anybody facing the final stages of their parents' lives
