Great book!

Robert Herd did a wonderful job in presenting key elements of the esoteric/spiritual tradition and showing how they relate to different movements- Freemasonry in particular, with some Rosicrucian and Templar connections. This would be a great introductory book for any Freemason who seeks to understand how the philosophical sciences have been passed down over the millenniums to the current system that is worked today. He provided a great summary of different traditions throughout history. It would make a great companion book to Timothy Hogan's Entering the Chain of Union. I particularly liked his exploration of the life of Pythagoras, and he showed very well that there is evidence of ancient Egyptian initiation practices and that the philosophical thought from that time was passed down. This is a great book which should be studied by any Master Mason hoping to understand the origins of the initiatic tradition which they inherited! I will be recommending it to my lodge and anyone else who is interested in the mysteries!

Highly Recommend!

This is an extremely well written and easy to read book! The holistic perspective offered allows the reader to make connections that perhaps even the author had not made. Though the complexity of the topic is high, the author has done an amazing job writing in a style that speaks to even the most basic reader. I would recommend this book to any who seek more Light in Masonry and to those seeking to understand what Masonry is and where it (potentially) came from! Well done WB Herd!

Exceptionally done!

I just finished reading "The Initiatic Experience." Bravo, Robert Herd! I believe Brother Herd has done considerable justice to the body of Masonic literature, and provided a modern and very approachable understanding of the origins, history, and purpose of the transmission of light in regards to Masonic Initiation.
I've read countless books on the topic, but this is the first I've read that really gets to the root of the purpose of initiation, as it relates to the meaning of bringing a candidate from darkness to light in a spiritual sense. I also very much appreciated the inclusion of the role of the Initiators, and the critical aspect they play in energy transmission to the candidate.
I hope to see more books of this quality from this author!
