In my many years of being an Army mechanic if there is one thing I have learned, it’s "If you can see it and you can touch it then you can fix it". Being a leader is about being a problem solver, it’s about finding the workaround when things present themselves as a challenge. It’s no big secret that the military has been reducing its manpower and will continue to draw down forces. Funding issues across the government, higher standards and little to no tolerance for disciplinary issues are making it more competitive to be in the military. Pressure from higher to weed out problem Soldiers and the need to set yourself apart from your peer’s means that you need to educate yourself in order to be the best. This book is very practical. It provides tools necessary to get you going from day one. Along with experience it will give you that needed advantage to be successful. I have selected topics that are critical and have elaborated on each topic just enough for you to understand the process and the need. Easily understandable and quickly referenced through the table of content. You can address issues as they arise or read the book straight through to familiarize yourself. Now includes 30 flow charts that provide simple guidelines for complicated issues ranging from a Health and Welfare inspection to the Death of a Soldier. It may not make you the subject matter expert but will give you enough information to make quick informed decisions. Full of material that could potentially be spread across several manuals in military doctrine taking days and valuable time to research. However, in case you have a need to go into detail on a certain subject this book also includes reference information.

Good quick book for new first sergeants such as myself. The counseling scenarios get your mind prepared for what-ifs and the reference materials are handy. I would simply suggest reading fm 7-22.7 (NCO guide) instead of purchasing this book though. The manual is more up to date and has more in-depth information.

Kindle version is a failure
By Amazon Customer
The content is great, but the Kindle edition is a failure. It is not compatible with the PC based reader, while viewing on the cloud reader you need to scroll backwards to read the pages, while viewing on a kindle device or phone you cannot scroll through the pages at all, you only see the table of contents and cover. Additionally there is no option to adjust font size or color in whatever reading mode you are using. I wish I would have purchased the print version and unfortunately you cannot return the kindle version. If the author or publisher happens to read this you need to square away this kindle version.
