During a season of transition in my life, I found myself overwhelmed with negative emotions like self-pity and a complaining spirit. It was as if a dark cloud had descended over me. I prayed and asked God for wisdom on how to overcome these negative emotions. As I did, I sensed Him leading me to do a 21 day gratitude challenge.
Over the course of the 21 days, God began to change me as I spent intentional time being grateful for all I had been given. I did this through writing in my journal each day and also sending a hand-written thank you note to someone different each day. This also led me to writing out 21 prayers of gratitude and compiling 21 stories of gratitude.
I want to share what I learned with you in the pages of this book which includes:

Gratitude is an Attitude

Prayer changes things because it changes our minds. When our minds are lifted toward gratitude, we naturally tend to gravitate towards making more good things. It is the universal law of gratitude that I personally believe God has set into place. Great read about this author's personal journey as well. Encouraging!

I loved reading this book due to the encouraging stories. It's good to read/hear that others go through similar things at times and are able to overcome. Sometimes we are too eager to allow negativity to control our lives without even knowing it. Shelley does a great job of reminding us to look for the positive!

Multi-layered gem, packed with blessings

I kept highlighting passages and phrases so I could revisit SO many of the jam-packed moments of encouragement and gems of wisdom and insight in this book. Hitz has created a "handbook" of practical steps to deepen your spiritual walk, following the "it takes 21 days to break a bad habit" maxim. Even the most upbeat of us have moments of self doubt or low moments, and the reminders and stories in "A Life of Gratitude," sprinkled with beautiful photos throughout, make turning the pages toward deeper joy a true blessing. This is one I will reread over and over.
