This is the first book in a planned Pepper Bibeau mystery series.
My hobby of genealogy research led me to writing this book: I first created a family history for my protagonist, Pepper Bibeau, using my genealogy computer program.
Pepper Bibeau's backstory:
Pepper was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1941 and moved to Wisconsin with her mother after her father was killed in an Army-Air Force plane crash when she was 4 years old. Pepper joined the Army Nurse Corps for four years and served a 12-month deployment in Vietnam. After she returned home, she took a job with an insurance company and now investigates insurance claims.
This mystery novel, FOR EVERY ACTION There Are Consequences, is set in Chicago, 1968. Aside from the difficulties she encounters during her investigations, Pepper deals with personal issues that include undiagnosed PTSD (not a term used in 1968) and her decision at age 15 to have her son raised by hanai-relatives in Hawaii.

About the Author
At age 9, Gail Baugniet's first attempt at writing a novel resulted in Ergo Death, a mystery set in her home town and based on her imagination. The story involved a murder and a narrow coal chute that led to the basement of the family home in Wisconsin. She later composed poems and haiku poetry for her private enjoyment.
Over the years, reading and writing were an integral part of Gail's eclectic history of employment as an insurance underwriter, statistical coder, and claims adjuster; as a professional realtor; as a police reservist and part time peace officer; and finally, as a security dispatcher. Now that Gail has free time to write novels again, her lifetime experiences offer plenty of background material for her planned mystery series.
Her first self-published novel, FOR EVERY ACTION There Are Consequences, released in 2011, introduces Hawaiian-born Pepper Bibeau as an Insurance Investigator whose routine assignments lead her through a maze of suspense. Gail currents resides in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she is at work completing her second novel in the series for release in 2012.

Not Your Average Mystery!

For Every Action...by Gail Baugniet is not your average mystery novel by a long shot. Ms. Baugniet uses the interesting premise of a strong woman character dealing with her own personal demons while suffering from PTSD after a stint in Vietnam, in this first book of the Pepper Bibeau mystery series. The author has a feel for the times; her social references to the 1960s are on target and appreciated by one who has lived through them. Even her main character has an unusual profession for a suspenseful mystery; she is an insurance investigator based in Wisconsin. She travels to Chicago in time for the 1968 Democratic Convention to track down a shifty doctor who has some explaining to do to her firm. The story also has a Hawaiian connection; Pepper was born there and her son is now staying with relatives there, so the storyline moves between the three locations, making for an intriguing read. Without giving spoilers, things take a turn for the worse and Pepper needs to find out why someone is actively trying to prevent her investigation.
This book is written with intelligence, knowledge of her subject matter and geographic locations, and the ability to draw the reader in from the first few pages. I recommend this to mystery fans or anyone who is looking for something different to read this summer!

Suspense to the MAX!!!

FOR EVERY ACTION held my attention throughout the read which was only interrupted because of necessity. The characters were profiled so well that by books' end I felt I too knew them and the Heroine. Wrapping up is sometimes not well done, but Gail surprises her readers with the possibility of a sequel.....well done and just sad the story is over.

Action in For Every Action....

Gail Baugniet's book For Every Action There are Consequences has a protagionist in Pepper Bibeau who has a past which is with her every day. Now working in the insurance industry, Pepper's sent to Chicago to track down and report on some shady medical transactions. She's a strong woman, knows her stuff and heads into the investigation determined to see it through.
Baugniet paints an accurate picture of an America on the cusp of the 1970s and change, and her character is changing and challenging women's roles. It's a taut story with a couple of fatal red herrings that keep the pages turning.
