About the Author
Sharyl Saver always dreamed of writing a book. As she fought triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form that overwhelmingly strikes young women, Sharyl shared her journey on her CaringBridge website, writing of love and loss, faith and hope. Inspired by cancer survivor and best-selling author Kris Carr, who refers to herself and other women fighting cancer as "cancer cowgirls," Sharyl began writing of her "cowgirl spirit" and signing her journal entries, "Holding my head high and fighting like a cowgirl." Hundreds followed her story, with visits to her CaringBridge site surpassing 34,000. "Fight with Cowgirl Spirit" is a compilation of Sharyl's CaringBridge posts and shares her journey of faith, hope and fighting cowgirl spirit. In 2010, Sharyl was selected as the "Honorary Survivor" for her city's American Cancer Society Relay for Life event, where she spoke of her faith, hope and belief for a future without cancer. The text of Sharyl's speech, "A Cowgirl with a Will to Survive," was published in October 2012 in the anthology "Upon Arrival of Illness" by Savage Press. The anthology honors publisher Mike Savage's niece, Kelly Culhane, another vibrant young wife and mother who lost her fight against breast cancer.

I could not put the book down until I was finished!

This book was one of the most inspiring, powerful books I think I have ever read. Sharyl is from my home town, and through family, I remember her. I was expecting the book to be a very sad story of a personal struggle of a woman's battle with cancer, and it was NOTHING like that. Don't get me wrong, I did shed some tears, but I was more amazed and in awe that Sharyl had so much spunk and energy and armour to win this battle. It was amazing. This was a story of her confidence and bravery, and not once did you ever feel her smile fade - you actually saw her grow stronger and fight harder as you read through the chapters of the book. She held her head high until the very end. I could not put the book down, and read the entire thing the moment my book was delivered! The book is unique in the fact that the chapters are dated/based on Caringbridge journal entries througout her battle, and there are select guestbook entries from people that are heartwarming as well - so you just feel like you are on Sharyl's journey with her. For all of you SSP people, Sharyl keeps it real with making local references - you really can relate and feel like you're home again when you read the book. Buy the book for yourself. Buy it for a friend. Buy it for someone who may be struggling with a similar fight and may need a pick up to win their battle. Sharyl, you leave behind a wonderful memoir and amazing spirit of courage, hope and faith to never ever give up on your dreams.

This Cowgirl's Spirit lives on!

I found this book to be a profoundly honest introspective view of the day to day observation of a person fighting for life and love. This book is an extension of Sharyl’s spirit, allowing her to continue to touch people, as she did while she was here. As I go through life, I am amazed at how easy it is to lose site of what is really important. “Fighting with a Cowgirl Spirit” helps to put life in the proper perspective. I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through tough times, as an example of how to take on challenges with grace, dignity and perseverance.

Inspiring

This is an inspiring young woman's story of how she was able to face a diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Facing all odds, and with faith, Sharyl was able to live a normal life as a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend to those she loved.
