A beautiful masterpiece of torment and redemption!!!

I struggled for days wondering how I'd ever write this, because I'm not sure how to even begin writing a review for this experience. Seduced in the Dark is a story that goes so far beyond the act of reading a book; you feel it down into the depths of your soul, where CJ Roberts claws and tears at it until you are left raw and numb beyond reason. You cry as your heart is repeatedly ripped to shreds, you cringe and your gut is wrenched as you feel the pain and shame as if it were your own, you bask in the unrelenting lust, and you melt into a puddle of sheer bliss as you watch two broken, tortured souls attempt to save each other in a way that no one else ever could. In short, CJ Roberts has created one of the most indescribably moving stories imaginable, and I am left in complete awe of a truly phenomenal and gifted author!! I give it 5 perfect, indescribably sated stars!!

When I read Captive in the Dark, I was absolutely floored by the way CJ makes you see past all the depths of darkness, right through to the incredible characters she created. The wait for Seduced in the Dark was an incredibly long one, I just needed so desperately to know what would become of Caleb and Livvie after all was said and done. But where Captive was thrilling, sexy, and twisted, SITD is seductive, gut-wrenching, and heartbreakingly torturous.
"Make him love you," Ruthless Me, whispered. "Make it so he can't live without you."
"I can't," I whispered back. "I tried. He said my attempts are laughable. He doesn't care."
"He will."
I'm not going to pick apart the plot like I normally would for this review, because I feel like this book needs to be experienced without any of that prior knowledge. It trivializes how profound the story is if I sit here and list my favorite moments or mention how much a certain scene affected me. What Livvie goes through in this story is something that will forever be etched in my mind, for both it's beauty and it's outright anguish, and I wouldn't want to take away from that for any other readers. The evolution that her relationship with Caleb takes shocks you to the core, and that is just a part of what makes SITD the most unforgettable story I've ever read. Both Livvie and Caleb have grown, becoming for each other that one solace in an existence so wrought with violence and hatred that there seems no way out. They knew what was coming, but they didn't know how to deal with the emotions they would feel as that time approached. And their struggle with those emotions and what it would mean for them when everything changed...well, it is one hell of a stormy road they are walking down, and no one goes unharmed.
We learn a lot more about Caleb's past this time around, and how he became the man he is now. As secrets of his life were revealed, it was just crushing. There were times in this story that I was so angry with Caleb that I felt physically ill, but to know the full extent of his tortured life just made me love this man more than I already had. And Livvie, god this girl takes a licking and just keeps on kicking and screaming! She is simply amazing with her strength, determination, and devotion that push her past the point that most others could never endure. I just love this girl, without question, and I'm so proud of who she becomes.
"What mattered is I was different. The naive girl in me had been bitch-slapped into womanhood. I'd been razed by pain, grief, loss, and suffering, and honed by lust, rage, and an acute awareness of my need to survive."
There were so many moments as I was reading where I was just completely shattered, breaking out into full-fleged sobs of heartache to the point I had to put the book down and catch my breath. I was so numb after reading this book, and there are just no words to explain how much these characters mean to me and how incredible the experience of their journey was. I can not recommend this book strongly enough, and I can say with 100% certainty that fans of CJ's Captive in the Dark will just flip for this stunning conclusion!!

BEST OF ITS GENRE, PERIOD.

I've read several reviews that have called SITD the best read of the year, but I can't agree, completely. I've read over 200 books this year, and Seduced In The Dark so far eclipses the competition that I have to call it one of the best reads of its genre, PERIOD.
If you flinch easily, this is not the duet for you. Livvie and Caleb are scarred, physically and emotionally, both by the hands of others, as well as each other. Those scars repeatedly condemn them to revisit the darkness, commit the foulest of transgressions, as well as pave their road to redemption.
What Ms. Roberts does so masterfully, is not to simply carry you along comfortably on the journey, but rather to push you to invest yourself into it, as each scar is revealed, reopened, and then resutured. You will not walk away from this story, untouched.
The highest commendation I can give any book is permanent pride of place on my shelf. Particularly since the advent of ereaders, few books make the grade. First Captive In The Dark, and now Seduced In The Dark have their parking spot etched, front and center, not just on my bookshelf, but in my Kindle Fire, as well.

Unconventional Love Story

Seduced in the Dark pushed me over the edge and I found myself climbing back up for more! This book evoked love, pain, passion, hatred and sympathy out of me. It was beyond what I had expected after reading Captive in the Dark (a MUST read before SITD). The characters are compelling and I found myself crying, visualizing their pain and sorrow.
I couldn't help but feel sympathy for Caleb because of his violent past and constant struggle w/ his emotions for Livvie. Livvie is definitely a strong, innocent, 'compassionate, 'captivating' and 'seductive' character.
As my good friend once said after a discussion about CITD, "Broken men..., so dark but hungry for love, why is that so sexy?"
I simply could not put this book down and found myself finishing it in a matter of 24 hours. My first reaction was, "Wow.....this book is $&%^}+¥ good!" I don't usually use explicit words for a book review, but this one so deserves one!
To say Seduced in the Dark is a 'must read' is quite an understatement...
CJ Roberts, because of your amazing books (Captive in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark), I've officially crossed over to the 'dark' side.
