resilient!

I witnessed and saw this young woman fall down and get right up and stand stronger, in fact I stood with her along parts of her way, so I can attest to her truth be told...no question that her journey would be pages in a book that can in turn be inspiration to others. Proud to say I know her and witnessed her ascent academically to her developed consciousness to wearing her handmade tams on my crown. I wish Ayana continued success with this book and in life. --Bro Q

Incredible journey that travels many walks of life!

This book has something for everybody. A story of a black girl growing up in fostercare in New York City who ends up travelling the world to places like Brazil and Jamaica - before ending up getting fired from her job social worker industry of corporate America! Reborn spiritually and financially as an author and entrepreneur, all stories told in this book lead to spiritual enlightenment and fulfillment that all can appreciate - whether christian, buddhist, muslim or aetheist. Need I say more?

inspiring and personal...

i have a clear memory of the first time i met ayana. i was so young and somewhat ignorant to the world outside, "my block" so to speak. we met in a group home and i remember thinking, wow ive got to pick that girls brain, she looks like she knows things lol. . i admired her because she was different, strong and soooo intelligent and she, very simply, without my asking (and without her even realizing) helped me begin my own personal quest for knowledge. i always thought she knew she was special but after reading this book i realize that wouldnt have made sense. its too bad we had such lil time to spend but im not upset about it because in a way i always had her in mind. i kept learning. humans tend to forget the most important things in life. ayana's story reminds you. this book makes me feel excited about my journey again. i didnt know ayana's full story until now. i wasnt the type to pry. thank you ayana hinton, for telling me your story and for having survived all the BS. funny, sexy, super interesting and entirely too short in my opinion. awesome read, really and truly.
