Jennise Conley is presently working on a PhD in psychology with an emphasis on cognition and instruction, allowing her to draw upon her research and knowledge in an effort to make learning fun and exciting. She holds an undergraduate degree in social science education and a master’s degree in educational psychology. As the author of several educational books, she seeks to create educational materials that are brain-based and engaging. She believes that an innovative mind is only as limitless and creative as the lifetime of influences it endures and attends. She is the founder of the Energy and Sciences Education Initiative (ESEI), where her focus is the promotion of brained-based learning practices to create and reinvent education programs in homes and at schools. Conley lives with her husband in Arizona. Chicago native Jillian Conley began collecting quotes several years ago as a hobby. Her curiosity in quotes began with a book passed down from her grandfather. Jillian’s grandfather gave a vintage copy of Best Quotations for all Occasions by Lewis C. Henry to her father who later gave it to Jillian on her 14th birthday. As a Child, I realized that there were a lot of wonderful things in life that I wanted to have and achieve. I knew that there had to be a key to having what I wanted in life that I just did not know yet. Seeing others living their dreams made me realize, that I could live mine too. I decided that I was going to go on an adventure, a mission of sorts. I was determined to meet as many people as I could that were living their dreams, and learn how they did it. Once I discovered the key to achieving dreams, I was going to share it with other kids, teenagers and adults so that they could live their dreams too.

Bridging Traditions for a Modern Audience

This book is academically sound with bountiful sourcing notes, but its real strength lies in the way the author refashions traditional esoteric studies with new perspectives that can be appreciated by both young modern readers and seasoned researchers. The underlying energy is synergistic and the theme is one of universal truths. This makes Williams' work unique in that it not only bridges cultural traditions but also the generations.

A Very Worthy Read

What I liked most about this book is its accessibility. Williams takes difficult subjects--quantum physics to a variety of threads in hermeticism--and links them together in creative and understandable ways. This is an astonishing feat for such a young man, who has clearly already embarked on a remarkable life journey. This is not another "quacky" New Age book; these are the ponderings of a young genius who is extremely well read and well versed in numerous mystical and esoteric traditions. He takes you on a trip through modern science and discoveries about the nature of conscience, then segues into the Ancient Egyptian Mystery Schools through kabbaleh to shamanism to alchemy to multiuniverses to the question of the evolution of consciousness possibly being embedded in our very DNA. If there is a recurring theme, it is the similarities between mystical traditions--and the idea that the history of human progress has ebbs and flows, and, perhaps, with a passing away of the present materialistic period, we are on the cusp of a new leap forward in spiritual consciousness. Read this book to join Jeff Williams in this leap as he lights a way. Looking forward to Volume 2.

Must Have Book for Ford Bit/spur Collectors

This book is 'THE' book for anyone who considers collecting or researching the bits and spurs made by well known maker, R.F.Ford. The wife of the maker has gone to great detail to make certain the order book that Mr. Ford used in his daily work is copied and preserved just as he wrote it down. The book shows the work, the coffee stains and scribblings just as RF put them in his book and is a tremendous resource for those collectors that wish to go back and look at this makers production through the years he made bits and spurs. Notes on many of the spurs and bits are in the book as well as who he made them for. Mr. Ford passed away in 2011, but his work is gaining great collector attention in the realm of western memorabilia collecting. Anyone collecting Mr. Ford's work would certainly want to add this book to the collection.

This book is a must have for any collector or history buff of RF's spurs and bits. I am a collector of his spurs, bits, buckles, bolo ties, and this book is a personal treasure for me. Liz, his wife, did an outstanding job of describing their humble beginnings, and RF's journey to becoming an award winning spur maker. I personally enjoyed reading the biographies, viewing the photos and looking through the actual order books, which show RF's handwriting, individual descriptions and customer names. The quality of the book and photo's are top rate and my collection is made complete with this book. RF will be greatly missed, but his life and legacy will live on through the pages of this unique book.

Georgette Todd has a BA in English and Journalism, attended law school and has a MFA in English, Non-Fiction Creative Writing from Mills College. Her writing has been featured on National Public Radio, in San Francisco Chronicle, San Diego Union-Tribune, Sacramento News & Review and other publications. Wow great book! A must read for anyone working with youth in any capacity especially at risk youth. This story will touch you and shock you. It gives you an astonishing picture of what it's like to grow up in the foster care system. Any person who has any kind of contact with the foster care system in any capacity must read this book. It will improve how you work with youth in any situation.

Compelling, a sad story with parts to it that may be too hard for people to bear. At the end though, it helps you to reflect on your own life and come to the realization that no matter what you go through, nothing can destroy you.

Raw, honest and insightful - I couldn't put it down

This is a remarkable book. It's a very raw, brutally honest, and incredibly thoughtful and insightful memoir of Todd's time inside the US foster care system. I loved her voice - at turns vulnerable, confessional, strong, defiant, and spirited. She has endured some really terrible things and while they might be difficult to read, they only serve to better help you understand the depth of her strength, and appreciate how much she truly has accomplished. It's a brave piece of writing from a personal standpoint, and an important piece of writing in terms of how we understand the foster system - a system that essentially punishes children not for doing bad things, but for having bad things done to them. As someone who has lived through the system, and subsequently gone on to work within it and work to reform it, Todd's perspective is about as well-rounded as you're going to get. I knew very little about the foster care system when I picked up this book, and it stuck with me. A real eye-opener.

We gathered medievalists, humanists of all stripes, scientists, social scientists, and artists to experiment with performing their respective methods in proximity to one another. Just a Program :(

It is always appreciated when organizer's make their conference program available to the wider world, but for $5--rather than the free PDF one usually finds online--I had hoped for more. For the cost, readers get the program (interspersed with seemingly random quotes and photos), some advertisements, directions to the conference, a guide to things to do in Boston, and a list of presenters. There is no evidence that the program has been revised since the conference occurred in 2012, and one assumes this is the version provided to attendees.

It is worth noting that the conference program includes the initial session proposals (usually written far in advance of the actual event), and, while these are useful, the individual abstracts (assuming they were provided to the organizers) would have been a great addition to the published version as sessions cover a wide range of topics; such an addition could have made this a less ephemeral publication.

Similarly, the provided list of presenters has both positive and negative aspects. The lengthy biographies included are great for getting a better sense of the presenters and their scholarship (especially for those engaged outside of Medieval Studies), but the tone of a number of the bios is very odd and these few offer no valuable information. Also included in the list are several pets and at least one (in)animate object, and all have equally fanciful biographies included.

Ian MacAran and Sandra Taylor meet on a charter flight to Vegas and from the first 'hello' they seem destined to be together. That is, until Bernie Selleca sees them together on a date. Bernie is Sandra's ex and Bernie begins to plan a very different future for the new couple. The first step of her gambit involves seducing Ian.

When asked about his first appearance in fiction, Ian MacAran said, “Hell of a ride! Hunt captures the essence of flight and the plot keeps me guessing at every turn. It makes sense for Mick to be more than what he seems and I get that Sandy becomes leverage for the bad guys, but Bernie catches me completely off guard! I have no idea she has an agenda until long after I’ve fallen for her. Wow I still can't believe she falls for me! Not that I'd change anything, I mean Bernie and Sandy are the best things in the whole book, and they're, uh, very well written.”

Private Investigator Orson Douglas would neither confirm nor deny that he’ll return in Hunt’s next novel Bad Dharma but he was all smiles when talking about Above It All. "From the moment I meet Ian, my life takes on a whole new level of meaning. I find a path, you know? I find purpose. And I love the effort Hunt puts in to nail the details. All the little stuff meshes perfectly and the McGuffin is brilliant! It was worth taking a bullet just to be part of this project."

Yuri Milanov, who once had business cards listing -Criminal Mastermind- as his occupation, thoroughly enjoyed Above It All. He said, “Okay, the cards were for a Halloween party in junior high, but as to the book: I was quite happy with my small, albeit pivotal role in the whole adventure. From the beginning our author’s architectural background is quite obvious in the intricate structure of the work and his elegant attention to detail. I was particularly glad to see most of the story threads resolved. This book has some delightful surprises and very few loose ends. I don't like loose ends. Alas, a few of my own concerns were left unresolved, but I have been promised a moment or two in Bad Dharma.' I'm confident quite a lot can be accomplished in a cameo.”

About the Author
Almost always smiling, Chaz Hunt has a graying beard and a reverence for jazz musicians and old comedians. Other passions include flight instructing, live theater, and turning CO2 into seafood through micro-upwelling (micro-breweries for whales.) He's a bit of a character and few know him better than the characters whose passion brings Above It All to life.

Actually, Mick Dale goes beyond passion: "He's a Bastard! I was giving my role everything I had, right? Then 'BAM!' I get plot-twisted! My whole raison d'être evaporates like piss on a cactus! What a rip-off! I'm not working with him again!"

Paul Neault was calmer, "Hunt would certainly benefit from professional help. As a Psychiatrist, and an authority on S&M, I was intrigued by Hunt's take on some edgier aspects of sex, but regrettably the story never quite explores a truly meaningful S&M relationship. That omission, coupled with the difficulties Ian, Bernie and Sandy have in their own relationships clearly show that Hunt himself is damaged on many levels."

"He isn't 'damaged'!" Sandra Taylor countered, “I mean, we all have issues, don't we?”

Bernie Selleca nodded “You do.”

Taylor raised an eyebrow. “And you don’t?”

“Oh, my issues have their own issues.” Selleca said proudly. “That's what makes me irresistible.”

"A word that starts with 'ire'." Sandy smiled.

When pressed about Chaz Hunt’s ‘issues’, Taylor cited author-character confidentiality, but Selleca didn’t hesitate to comment. “Okay, here's just one example: first he makes the sex hot and believable and perfect, but then just one complaint on an early draft starts him self-censoring everything! We had to fight to get him to stick with his original vision."

Taylor agreed, "I don't think a reader can truly appreciate the passion and intensity of a relationship without seeing it. To really understand the agony of losing someone you need to see the ecstasy."

Selleca smiled, “I thought the ecstasy was nicely handled."

“And it’s critical to really getting the whole story! In all fairness, though, criticism from family can be hard to handle."

"But it's so hypocritical! For decades they read and share and rave about all those graphically grisly, murder-mystery murders and it's intimacy that makes them squeamish?"

"Well, nobody likes talking about sex with their kids."

Selleca rolled her eyes, "Like you said: issues."

Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll, Jets and Adventure…(oh, my!)

Fun read! And as a previously reviewer said, not for kids (or young adults). Kind of what I expected, and also not at all what I expected.

Here's the idea: What if someone gave you a lot of money to…do something. Would you? That's the central question in this multi-faceted tale, and it's been asked and answered in countless other stories. But this one manages to be a bit different. I won't go into the details, as that journey's half the fun. But different it is. The book starts with a perversely interesting airborne catastrophe, and then slows down (maybe a little too slow?) as it sets up the characters and frames the problem. After this setup though, stuff quickly starts to HAPPEN and I was INTO IT!

If you connect with all of the terms in my review title above (I'm giving it one star for each term), or any three, or maybe any two, give this a read!

I found Chasing Memphis to be a good, light read. I had a travel day and was able to complete the book in one day. It depicts life in the south during my life time. I could relate to the characters and events. Reggie is a talented writer and I look forward to his next book.

LOTS of Confessions, Tips Were Hard to Find

After reading all of the glowing 5-star reviews from people who have only reviewed this one book, I knew I had to see what was generating all of the excitement.

As a semi-professional blogger, I was attracted to this title in an effort to learn more and possibly pick up a few tips. I don't know if there was much substance in this title, as I quit reading at the 11% mark on my Kindle: to quote the words of the author, "there are some very big egos in the world of internet marketing, and not letting your head get too big is a sure way to find success and opportunities in areas that you may never have thought of."

Sure, the sentence above ended in a preposition (my Masters in English mother would shudder), but the reason why I included that particular quote is this "guide" is absolutely full of congratulatory pats on the back, numerous links to the authors websites in an effort to extract some cash, and I couldn't tell the main point of this guide other than as another referral / commission opportunity from Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson's ego is enormous and reflected throughout this book.

I had not previously heard of Mr. Johnson before picking up this title. There may be some jewels of information in this guide, but I would strongly suggest a rewrite and tone down the first part of the book and be a little more humble vs. telling of your own alleged accolades on a repetitive basis.

I picked this up during a free Kindle promotion and, as I type this review, I see the Kindle version has reverted back to $2.99: I would save your money and look for other resources.

Disappointed

I was intially attracted to the number of good reviews of this book but I have to say I'm disapointed. I am new to blogging and was hoping for some really good expert advice. Unfortunately I didn't discover any of those secrets as stated in his description. That is not to say there isn't useful information in this book, there is, I just didn't find his tips unique to any others I have read on the subject.

One of the biggest disappointments of this book is that other than various forms of social networking, which the author admits is not for everyone, offers no tips on how to drive natural organic traffic to your blog. It's just my opinion but I think an internet marketer would know the importance of that.

Aside from the tips the content of this book reads like an advertisement for the authors websites. I don't have a problem with authors who use a book as a promo when they are free and honest about their intent. I am not a fan of paying for a book on tips that guides me over to the author's websites or instead of showing me how to do something and tells me to sign up for his service.

Overall I just can't give this book more that 2 stars. While I think there are a few bits of useful information hereI didn't feel this book lived up to it's hype and the presentation was far to self-promoting for my taste.

This book really nails it

Zac's book about blogging needed to be written. Why? Because there are far to many bad books on the topic out there. Zac is an Internet Marketer turned blogger who used his blog to increase his brand awareness and build his business. In other words, he actually did it, in a BIG way, and frankly I'd rather learn from someone who has done it successfully for so long. Zac nails it all. From how to set up a blog, to how to get traffic to how to make money from it... This is a no-brainer. Zac will tell you what you need to know with no-fluff.
