On February 20, 2003, The Station nightclub at 211 Cowesett Avenue, West Warwick, Rhode Island would bear witness to the fourth deadliest nightclub fire in American history. The Night the Music Ended is presented in memory of that tragic night and its victims, and looks at the nightclub itself, its place in the community, the fire, and the aftermath. In addition, The Night the Music Ended celebrates the music with interviews with the very bands that attracted so many devoted fans to this popular club: Quiet Riot, The Dave Davies Band, Warrant, The Fixx, and many more. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Station Fire Memorial Foundation.

About the Author
Marilyn Bellemore worked at the Rhode Island Historical Society Library in Providence for a decade, during which time she helped preserve and promote the Ocean State's unique history. While a journalist for Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, she received a Rhode Island Press Association award for a series of historical articles. Here, she shares the history of Matunuck with photographs and postcards from private collections and local libraries and organizations.

Respectful Tribute.

This book is a tasteful, respectful tribute in looking back at the Station Night Club. I can't believe it has been 10 years since the tragedy. As a Rhode Islander, in our close-knit community, I think every one of us knew someone that was there that night, and it has affected us greatly to different degrees. The book doesn't focus on that horrific night. Instead, it focuses on the better, happier days at the club-- it describes a good sampling of the bands and musicians who played there (including original interviews from before the tragedy, and also follow up interviews with those same band members) -- these are the reasons why the Club was so popular, and why it had been such a good place to spend time with friends.
The author, from what I understand, was a writer at the local Kent County Times at the time of the tragedy. She used to interview members of incoming bands each month for her column in the paper (back from around '99 thru '03), used to attend many of the performances, and knew many of the victims. Also, from what I understand, much of the book will go towards the victims' fund.

A fair retelling of the history of the Station fire

A lot of this book dealt with the author's write-ups of the various groups that played at the Station in Rhode Island before the notorious fire. However, the author also addressed the actual fire event, though not in the same kind of detail as other books.

Enjoyed this book showing that there was such strong camaraderie and love for the music presented at this venue before the unspeakable tragedy that mark the end for so many and altered the lives of of many more, forever. Thank you.
