PRETTY PICTURES MINIMAL INFORMATION AND CONTENT
By J. BENTLEY
This is a beautifully produced and photographed book, but it lacks much content - a fine coffee table; book. Many of the plates have no explanation, even though this would be very helpful and informative, and some pf these plates beg for explanation - its just shows a beautiful piece of Turquoise.

A minimal amount of text discusses the mines, most of it of little use, such as who mined it in 1920 - who cares? I was expecting a more in-depth survey of the mines and stones, hence I was disappointed overall. When discussing Turquoise as jewelry and decoration (as in this book) there are issues such as physical qualities of the stone/mine, hard or soft, explanation of steps in preparation for use should be discussed, since there are many processes that are used in the final product...

The authors did very little research, most of the info could be located on the Internet in a short time, but any real knowledge and education on Turquoise is not to be found in this book. From a textual standpoint a better little book is Turquoise Unearthed: An Illustrated Guide [Paperback], listed on Amazon. Nowhere near the fine photography, and less mines discussed, but more information which I enjoyed.

It seems to me the authors have minimal experience with Turquoise themselves, 2 of the 3 are involved in marketing, advertising, design, photographer & videographer (for businesses unrelated to Turquoise).

A more comprehensive book on Turquoise is needed, with the pictures from this book and text written by people very familiar with the stone, researching and presenting more in-depth commentary on the mines, Turquoise in general, Native American Jewelry (though this is covered in separate books), collections, etc.

Lastly I found this very strange indeed, all of a sudden, in 2 places between chapters on 2 different mines, appear photographs and a full page biography on 2 current Turquoise artists, both of whom are moderately talented and recognized artisans. This appears to be a sales promotion for them, injected in the middle of a book to promote sales and foster recognition of these people. Are they friends of the authors? Do the authors have some business dealings or marketing arrangements with these artists (curiously that is the profession of the authors) This is glaring and inexcusable. If the authors wanted to give examples of artists working in Turquoise, why these unknowns, why not a stunning world-class master like Charles Loloma, or more traditional Julian Lovato, etc.???

Spectacular!!
By Richard Riley
I have been a turquoise collector for many years. This new book of the Nevada turquoise collection of collector/dealer Bob Brucia is spectacular. The collection showcases many specimens that have rarely been seen. The photographs are outstanding. If you like turquoise, you will love this book.

For collectors, enthusiasts, novices of turquoise
By Blain Harasymiw
Hard cover book, printing quality high. From page to page I was amazed at the amount of historical fact of turquoise mines, such as miners, to the dates of mines productions, to Native Americans. More amazing are the photo's of turquoise, never before has a collection of turquoise been captured as it has in this book. Such details in the photo's, the macro's images jumped to life, I felt as if I were reading a journal of historical qualities. I collect stones and this book is an ecyclapidia of Turquoise, it helped me to identify stones I have had in my collection for years that I was not able to identify. Now I can truly say I am have more knowledge of turquoise due to purchasing this book-art in a book form.
