About the Author
I’ve been a drifter, hitchhiker, migrant farmworker, soldier, fugitive, prisoner, long-haul trucker, mountain climber, poet, published author, and public radio DJ. After several years of drifting, I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1980. In 1996, I wrote my first book "Bringing In The Sheaves" chronicling a summer I'd spent on a wheat harvesting crew on the Great Plains. I'm a free-lance journalist and since 1999, I've co-hosted the Public Radio program "Folk Salad". I live in a small house with my wife Louise and our cat Honeybee.

A great story about the flow of life

I read this book straight through and enjoyed every moment. Richard is able to capture the crazy flow of life through the perspectives of various stages of his journey, painting a wonderful picture of how it's about the journey and not the destination. I felt like I was sitting across a campfire with him, listening to his tales as the stars came out. I was moved when crossroads in his life mirrored those of my own and marveled at the places he'd been that I've not experienced. A great example of American Life and something I plan to re-read many times, looking for new places my life has intersected his branching path.

Then There Is No Mountain

Then There Was No Mountain was a very satisfying read for me. I love a good road story, however this title proved to be much more.I read it straight through. The road was merely the ribbon that wrapped itself around Mr. Higgs personal relationships with love, nature, friendship, spiritual quests , sacrifice and gain. The road has always been his segue to discovery. Written in a very honest form, I related to every word as will other readers, because each page reflects the human condition in its most vulnerable articulation, as well as potent revelations about his past which help to facilitate the embodiment of his future. In some mysterious way we see ourselves in his stories, which for me, created the page turning event that I experienced.
