Generous and useful: highly recommend!
By Valerie
I am so grateful to have come across Ms. Cayouette's book Know Small Parts. I am at some of the beginning stages of my film career, but I am not a complete novice, and this book is riddled with useful tools and eye-openers for someone dreaming of career in film, someone like me, and even those finding a good bit of success in their film acting careers. I know I will continually go back to this book down the line as I progress in my career because there are useful nuggets of information for every step of the way. Ms. Cayouette reveals tricky aspects about the film industry, Los Angeles, smaller markets, and even abridged acting techniques in a completely selfless way. Many of the anecdotes and advice she humbly gives away for the sole purpose of helping, and you can tell because she is as open about her own learning experiences, pitfalls, and successes as she is helpful. What this book does more than anything is help you navigate through your career, making you privy to information that could take years to figure out without the help Ms. Cayouette offers here. I found myself reading along, enjoying myself, and saying to myself over and over, "Oh! Wow- that's useful!"
My favorite concept that I took away from this book was the idea of making auditions about opportunities to show off and NOT about getting the job. Because when the odds are stacked against every actor like they are, most auditions you go on, statistically speaking, you will not book the job, so going in with the mindset of using each audition as an opportunity to show what YOU can do well, you can build a reputation and an identity for yourself... and HAVE MORE FUN! :)
I recommend this book to all of my actor friends and will continue to do so.

The get off your butt and do it book!!!!
By Barbara Farrow
I loved Laura's no nonsense look at her long years of experience with acting. She has realistically taken apart a glamorous world and chapter by chapter shown that acting is indeed hard work. From walking around in a hoop skirt to the disappointment of your best moments falling on the cutting room floor, you can tell Laura has made the best of every triumph and disappointment, building a career off of small but spectacular moments on the screen. :)
